from...Svetla Dalakchieva
The migration routes of the Slender-billed Curlew pass through Bulgaria. In the past the species was recorded on wet meadows all over the country. Now it regularly visits the Atanasovsko Lake in Southeast Bulgaria, situated on the Bulgarian Black Sea coast. There an adult bird was caught and ringed on 21 September 1981. Single bird and small groups of 5-6 individuals visit the lake during spring and autumn migrations. The highest number of 10-12 birds was recorded in April 1996. Since then the species regularly visits the lake and its number is steady. The most suitable time to see the species in Bulgaria is to visit the Atanasovsko Lake in mid-April.
